The Moonlit Cycle Ride with Rock Girl

 

It was the perfect evening in Cape Town for the first Rock Girl Full Moon Cycle ride on the 4^th of June.  A cheery group of cyclists ranging from all ages gathered in front of the Grand Daddy Hotel, to get ready to spin their wheels for a good cause. 

Rock Girl is a grassroots public art and education initiative started by India Baird in collaboration with various artists, which creates safe spaces for woman and children in urban areas with symbolic benches.

In India's own words:

"Strong, independent women are the inspiration for Rock Girl. The collaboration with the creative community is a genuine way to show support for women and girls facing violence in their lives everyday."

The 10 km route, which started in front of the Grand Daddy Hotel in Long Street, continued along to the beautiful Green Point Stadium and ended back at the hotel.

Bos Ice Tea had their Bos Bicycle parked in the lobby of the hotel, with a fine selection of their delicious Ice Teas ready to quench everyone’s thirst as they arrived back at the hotel.  

Up in The Venue, the Grand Daddy had some snacks ready and the lively Nomadic Orchestra ensured that everyone’s feet were tapping.  It was the perfect atmosphere for our Moonlit evening.

 

 

 

 

The evening raised an amazing R6000,- for the Rock Girl!  Thank you to everyone, who opened your hearts to this worthy cause and came to cycle with us under the full moon.  Daddy is already looking forward to doing this again in the near future.
